Critics: Trump's Vast Assets Pose Corrosive Conflicts of Interest

By Ken Bredemeier November 21, 2016 Weeks before President-elect Donald Trump even takes office, critics are warning that his vast financial interests threaten to embroil him in conflicts of interest that could cast doubt on the motives for his decisions and have the potential to undermine his presidency. The billionaire real estate tycoon, soon to be the wealthiest U.S. president ever, is not required by law to divest his financial holdings and has shown no interest in doing so. But numerous past U.S. presidents have done just that, while others – none of them as wealthy as Trump – have placed their holdings in blind trusts while they were in the White House. The 70-year-old Trump says he plans to turn control of his business empire over to three of his adult children – Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump, all in their 30s – and other Trump Organization executives. Trump says he would let this group independently manage his vast array of real estate ventures, golf cou

US senators promise to act against Trump on Russia ties

Iran Press TV Mon Nov 21, 2016 1:25PM US senators say they would counter incoming President Donald Trump if he moves to establish warm relations with Russia. Lawmakers from both political parties would like Trump to rein in Russia, but they are also willing to take unilateral measures if necessary, according to an analysis by congressional newspaper The Hill. "We cannot sit on the sidelines as a party and let allegations against a foreign government interfering in our election process go unanswered because it may have been beneficial to our case for the moment," Senator Lindsey Graham said. The South Carolina Republican said he was planning a multi-pronged approach, which would include helping allies in Eastern Europe counter Russia and holding a series of congressional hearings to highlight Russian "misadventures." Graham's closest ally, Republican Senator John McCain, warned Trump last week against another "reset" of US-Russia relation

Russia Throughout his electoral campaign, Donald Trump was widely criticized for his calls to restore friendship between Moscow and Washington and develop cooperation in the fight against terrorism. What is more, Trump made a number of praising remarks about Russia leader Vladimir Putin, but insisted he has no links to the Kremlin. Some American media and supporters of Hillary Clinton openly labelled Trump as a pro-Russian candidate. After Trump won the election he confirmed he wants a "good relationship" with Moscow. During a phone conversation with the newly-elected president, President Putin wished him well in the implementation of his electoral program. The

Militants can't hold ground against Syrian forces for a long time: Obama

Iran Press TV Mon Nov 21, 2016 10:15AM US President Barack Obama has said "moderate" militants fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad cannot hold their ground for a long period of time. Speaking at a summit of Pacific leaders in Lima, Peru, on Sunday, Obama predicted that Syria's second city, Aleppo, was going to fall to Syrian forces supported by Damascus' allies, Russia and Iran. "Once Russia and Iran made a decision to back Assad in a brutal air campaign... it was very hard to see a way in which even a trained and committed moderate opposition could hold its ground for long periods of time," he said. Obama, whose country is funding and training anti-Syrian militants, also said he is "not optimistic" about the Arab country's future. "I am not optimistic about the short-term prospects in Syria." Since March 2011, the United States and its regional allies, in particular Saudi Arabia, Qatar and

14 November 2016 – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has provided food assistance to some 100,000 people fleeing the intensifying conflict in Mosul, including a distribution on Sunday to 25,000 people in Gogjali, while also working tirelessly with its partners to reach families that remain trapped in Mosul city and newly recovered areas. Despite opening more camps, thousands of families remain in need of urgent care and food assistance. WFP is providing ready-to-eat rations to families, including supplying families of five with a month's worth of staple foods, including rice, wheat flour, chickpeas, vegetable oil, sugar and salt. "We are providing food to people who need it regardless of whether they are in camps or have stayed in their homes or surrounding neighbourhoods," stated Sally Haydock, WFP Country Director in Iraq. "People have had their lives uprooted – it is our duty to ensure that food is not an additional worry for them at this diffic

I spent a lot of evening hours inside that shed and nothing unusual would happen except listening to you on the radio. One night I was working on a circuit board and I start hearing like a crunching sound on top of the garage roof. Like som
