A safe place

Recently my daughter and I were having a conversation about "furries" as I was getting dressed for work ( we have a lot of random conversations ).  It had been several years since I had a student who actually dressed as an animal and it brought back memories of him sitting in my office crying because other students made fun of him.  In our conversation, my daughter was quick to point out that there are whole communities of people who self identify as animals, elves, vampires, dragons, and so on. As she was talking, it occurred to me that the majority of school counselors are unconsciously unaware of their existence in the school community. I shared with her that this was a great idea for a blog post and she rolled her eyes at me.  Undeterred by her negative reaction, I decided it would be helpful to write about these subcultures that are often hidden in our mainstream culture and schools. Disclaimer: I am not an expert on students who identify as "furries," "...

Zoophilia in the Furry Community

Zoophilia in the Furry Community [adjective][species] is no longer in operation. If you are looking for great furry content, check out our friends over at  Culturally F'd . This site is left up as an archive and curiosity only. 06 Feb 2012 | One in six furries self-identify as zoophiles. The real number is probably higher. This piece of information comes courtesy of Klisoura's  survey  and I don't think it would surprise many furs. A quick mental poll of the furries I know — the ones that I'm close enough to have an insight into their sexual preferences — suggest that it's about right. Like many things in the furry world, exactly what comprises a zoophile is a little blurry. It's arguable that furry porn, as appreciated by a large majority of the readers of this blog, might be considered zoophilic. Taking the non-furry world as our reference point, furry erotica is certainly a half-step in the zoophilic direction. In the psychology world, there is a growing co...

What is a furry

Furry could be said to be a lot of things, but above all, it’s a collection of people.  People, with all of their differences and similarities, their overlapping sub-societies, their petty arguments and tangled relationships.  The goal at [adjective][species] as a metafurry resource is to take a look at that from the inside (and maybe occasionally from the outside) and explore this jumble of a fandom. The name [adjective][species] is a synecdoche, a way of expressing the whole of our weirdness through a smaller part of it.  Our mascot is, accordingly, RandomWolf, rendered accurately in the banner by  Floe . If you are interested in contacting us, please feel free to leave a comment, catch us on  Twitter , or shoot us an email at  submit@adjectivespecies.com !  [adjective][species] is governed by the  [a][s] Code of Conduct . What does it mean to be a Furry? It that a sexual thing?

A furry is a fan of media that features animal characters doing “human” things (e.g., walking, talking). Examples of famous anthropomorphic animal characters include Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse. Media that feature such characters can be referred to as “furry” as well (e.g., “Zootopia is a furry movie.”) The furry fandom refers collectively to the furry community—in the same way one would describe a community of science fiction fans as belonging to the “science fiction fandom.” Like other fan communities, furries talk about movies, art, or television online. Many cities around the world host furry conventions, which are major tourist attractions that bring together thousands of furries. If you want more data on who is in the furry fandom, you can check out our survey findings. Research Findings - FurScience Furry conventions, or “fur cons,” are public, organized events where furries gather. Like other fan conventions, panels and events at such conventions include cartoon voice act...

What's a Furry? - FurScience they love the fact that the furry community embraces them as family and aid in their research efforts. What’s a Furry? The term furry describes a diverse community of fans, artists, writers, gamers, and role players. Most furries create for themselves an  anthropomorphized  animal character ( fursona ) with whom they identify and can function as an avatar within the community. Some furries wear elaborate costumes or paraphernalia such as animal ears or tails, or represent themselves as anthropomorphic animals in online communities such as Second Life. Furry fandom is an inclusive term that describes the community of furries that span online, local, and international settings. The furry fandom is global, with hundreds of local groups existing worldwide and dozens of conventions held annually. A small subset of furries (~20%), called “therians,” believe they are spiritually connected to animals, are less than (or more than) 100% human, are an ...

The furry Fandom

Image
is a Melting Pot that Seems to attract Many People for Different Reasons. what makes the fandom unique and able to attract broad range of people with different but similar interests is that fact the fandom revolves around not single person, theme, or tv show. But an idea. that is why when people ask what is a furry ?its hard to explain and give a straight definition exactly what a furry is. but one thing that everyone in the fandom can agree on is that a furry is someone who enjoy/likes/or takes a definite interest in anthropomorphic animals. But the Problem or Blessing is that “Anthropomorphic Animals” applies to a huge spectrum of topics. examples: My little Ponies, applies as anthropomorphic animals, most drawn kids shows are anthropomorphic. Disney has been well known for anthropomorphic animals in Movies,Shows, Characters. History and Religions have had anthropomorphic Deity's and Anthropomorphic descriptions, myth, and folklore like in Egyptian,Roman,Greek Beliefs. Chris...
