Which parts of Rogue One could be seen as political propaganda? I felt the movie was deeply anti-American, equating the US with the Empire, Jadha with Afghanistan, and Gererra as Osama bin Laden.

It wasn’t quite as obvious as Avatar, but I feel this film addressed the 800 pound Gorilla: Our military is everywhere, our tech is vastly superior to our “enemies,” We have a way of life to impress upon others, and in not-so-subtle ways, the reality of war crimes was touched upon. We will do what it takes to spread the American Way.
Face it. We are the Empire. We sit here at home, snug with our screens and our foolish political theatre and the semblance of normalcy. In other countries, on entire continents, our military is there.
Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis are dead. How did they end up that way? What of the soldiers who report that the ROE (Rules of Engagement) have been laxed, that anyone who seems suspicious should be treated like a threat. I’ve read of women bringing troops bread and getting killed for coming up on them with a package.
I’m gonna get trolled, possibly banned, for saying these things. But you know what? In the back of our troops’ minds, there’s a little Geneva Convention representative, screaming at the top of their lungs. OR not. Maybe that rep’s been pulled out and stomped into the sand. This is the new world order.
We are the fascists. Study pre-WWII, Henry Ford, GM, all the companies that contributed to the Nazi movement. Study the shift to the right this country has been taking since the middle of last century. Hell, we’ve always been the nation of Takers. We took this land, didn’t we?
Back to the movie. Why is Cassian doing the unseemly things he does? Killing a co-conspirator who couldn’t keep up. Putting Erso in his sights. And why does he have a French accent? Are we being reminded of the French Resistance, the subterfuge and double-crossing that occurred in occupied France?
What about our new glorious leader Trump talking about using nukes if need be? How about just nuking one city? One grid on the map? One trading outpost, one secret base, in the movie. Tactical one-reactor bursts from the Death Star. Tactical nukes lobbed from destroyers off the coast of wherever. Or shot from a sub. Or shot from a drone. Hell, a lot of people on the net think it’s already been done by us and our allies.
If you don’t see our military apparatus in the Empire, you’re really just kind of playing around thinking about the Force and the lack of lightsabers and how much you like the funny new droid, K-2SO.
Darth Vader makes an appearance, the field general burdened with handling the uprising of the rebels. He waves his phallic wand and though impotent, almost squashes the attempt to share the Death Star plans. The sleeper cell is victorious. The Empire’s efforts to bring peace to the galaxy are being threatened.
Surprised no flying drones used. I guess after the Clone Wars, nobody wanted to deal with militarized appliances. After Obama, nobody really wants to put them in their Star Wars movie.
I’m probably on a list for saying all this. But it’s just conjecture. My opinion based on muddled past military experiences, media melanges of terrorist reports, Michael Moore talking about 600,000 lives…
But think about this: Other countries think we’re the Empire. Many “rebels” think of themselves as a small group of spunky allies trying to take down the machine. Will our foreign policy improve with Trump? Or is he Darth Vader stepping onto the theatre and executing his strategy for world domination?
Every movie since Terminator, such as The Matrix, et al. addresses the scary side of our nation. Why not Rogue One?
