why people hate furries
The two reasons are the quack doctor Phil’s interview with a Furry he chose to exploit and this guy is not a clinical psychologist he is a quack tv role-play doctor. Discovery Channel Taboo also exploited the same individual furry. This was conveniently aired after the CSI episode with a furry to produce maximum ratings. This is the biggest cause for the stereotyping of the Furry community and continued exploitation by media TIME magazine ran a bias inaccurate story about Nazi furries who have been banned from all Furry conventions now this just happens to be four individuals who follow the Nazism theology and create fursuits that are by design made to start confrontations. Like the one that incorporated the Confederate flag who was told ahead of time not to show up at Anthrocon PA or the local police would arrest him and they did arrest him for felony trespass and theft of services. In short, he had no registration or room in the hotel and had no business being there other than to disrupt the event which was his intent and it failed. Note this answer is direct and to the point. It is not in violation of quora policies as confirmation bias is a big issue in journalism in regards to geek fandoms.
Here's my take on what it means to be a furry:
A furry is simply a member of the furry fandom. To be a furry is to be a fan of anthropomorphic art, often shortened to anthro or sometimes even just referred to as furry art. If you don't know what that is, to anthropomorphize something is to give a non-human thing (more often than not an animal) human characteristics. For example Bugs Bunny is an anthro rabbit, Scooby-Doo is an anthro dog, Simba is an anthro lion, etc. Additionally, many ancient deities/mythos are anthro as well, for example, the ancient Egyptian God Anubis. Furries are just fans of this type of art and expression of humanity and nature. At its core, it's a very creative, artsy-fartsy fandom with a passion for animals and/or nature. It's also a very open/accepting and diverse fandom; there are so many types of furries from young hobbyist artists and theater geek furries to doctors, lawyers, and historian furries.
Not every furry takes part in this, but a unique aspect of the furry community that many furries enjoy is fursuiting. A fursuit is a costume suit that someone wears to dress like an anthro character. Some look more cartoonish, much like high-quality mascot suits (a good example of this is Made Fur You), while others look more realistic, like a theatrical suit (a good example of this would be suited by Clockwork Creatures), and some are more in between (Beastcub is a good example of this). Each suit is handmade, one of a kind, and more often than not, it is of the wearer's fursona.
A fursona is a character unique to you, your “furry persona” of which can be as meaningful as an extension of yourself or a spiritual animal version of yourself, or as loose/fun as an original character you simply love and bring to life. Some furries have many, others have just one, and a small chunk of furries don't have any.
Fursuits and fursonas aren't by any means a requirement of being a furry, but they are the most common, top 2 things that most furries will admit to having, enjoying, or at least wanting. Furries are committed to providing a welcoming environment to all, regardless of race, color, national origin or ancestry, creed or religion, sex or gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, or age. Any harassment or discrimination against any individual or group is unwelcome at any Furry-related event.
