Is there any explanation why people are into furries?

Being furry is arbitrary, and so your demands for answers are even more arbitrary. “Why are there furries?” is as arbitrary as “Why do people eat asparagus?” Let’s assume that you’re asking this question from an informed position so that you know that Furries generally have an interest anthropomorphic animals by definition

. Notice there is no sex in the definition. Really, the problem is not that there isn’t any explanation. It’s that there are lots of explanations, and they aren’t related.

I hope you are asking this question because you are struggling to find a deeper meaning in furry fandom. Here it is. People are diverse. Incredibly diverse. So diverse that they can imagine themselves to be non-human animals with human attributes. So diverse that since they can imagine themselves as non-human animals, they want to tell stories about, draw pictures about, court mate people they see as being, generally let participate in society those non-human animals.

To many, but not all, furries, animals are people too. They aren’t property. They are biologic entities with motivation and feeling. Furries use imagination to bridge the gap between how animals are stupid and the ways they make up for that. In other words, if you give an animal an upright stance, flexible muscles, certain mental skills, they are undeniably people. To some furries, you don’t need to give them all those attributes. A few or even one will do.

Shoot. Did I link to Aliens in the previous paragraph? The thing that makes aliens not animals is that they originated from another planet. People who like the existence of aliens feel something transcendental about it. It’s often the same with furries, but not necessarily. Thoughts and feelings like promiscuous teleology are very human. There are just parts of us that want to believe everything has a purpose. People believe that there being no other life in the universe is improbable, considering how big it is, how long it has existed, and quickly it seems life arose on Earth. If the alien lover motto is “We are not alone,” then the furry motto would be “We don’t need to be alone.” I find it is similar for me even though I believe we start and end with our physical bodies. There’s still something special about it that it could be done.

Supposing you aren’t searching for deeper meaning and you just want to know why furries think they can get away with all this imagination. I suppose if you want to know this, you need to ask yourself this. What makes humans better than anthropomorphic animals? Furries are more aware humans are great apes. What makes an all-ape human be more muchier than an ape-dog human? I hope your answer is that one exists and the other does not. Humans are the only existing anthropomorphic animal. Everything else is fantasy. Why are people allowed to have fantasies? Because you could not stop them from having fantasies.

In this sense, the answer to your question, why are there furries can equally be answered by Why do some men shave and some do not? and Why do some people dye their hair blonde? Or, for that matter, why are some males inordinately attracted to female breasts and yet get offended when women breast feed babies in public? Attraction is arbitrary. My mind isn’t structured exactly like your mind. Some neurons that detect some aspect started to fire along side of neurons that signal attraction or desire, so they grew together and made a connection. And that’s it. It doesn’t have a deeper meaning than that people were socialized or lucked into it. That’s not to say that attraction isn’t important. Instead, it’s to say that changing your attraction is somewhere between tricky and impossible.
