“Truthers” off the deep end

by Victor Chabala

Readers will remember "Truther" A from my previous article

Recently, he has posted two things indicating that he has REALLY gone off the deep end- even more so than most "truthers."

He recently  posted a link that claims to have evidence of possible CGI.  However, there is one blatantly obvious reason the link is full of, shall we say male bovine droppings, and Fellow Debunker 5 points it out: EVERY camera, INCLUDING the ones owned by PRIVATE CITiZENS  aimed at the second tower caught the second plane plowing into the tower, and there is NO WAY IN HELL you are going to get the exact same CGI on multiple cameras-  as usual, the "truther" claims are needlessly complicated.  Apparently, they never heard of Occam's Razor, which Merriam Webster defines as, " a scientific and philosophic rule that entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily which is interpreted as requiring that the simplest of competing theories be preferred to the more complex or that explanations of unknown phenomena be sought first in terms of known quantities," and is often summed up as, " The least complicated explanation is probaly the correct one."  It essentially boils down to " Keep it simple, stupid."

Another thing " Truther" A wants to know is why Larry Silverstein didn't sue the designers of the Twin Towers because he thinks they did a very incompetent job of building the Twin Towers.

There are several problems here. One, the designers of the Twin Towers DID do a calculation showing that the Twin Towers would withstand the impact of a Boeing 707, which was the largest aircraft in existence at the time the Twin Towers were build.  The thing " truthers" ignore is that the designers were assuming an ACCIDENTAL impact at low speeds on a SINGLE floor.  They weren't counting on a speeding airplane being deliberately flown into the buildings and hitting multiple floors.

As an aside, " Truther" A keeps saying it was a 757 that hit the Twin towers and a 767 that hit the Pentagon when the 4 planes were two 767's and two 757s.  The planes that hit the Twin Towers were 767s and the plane that hit the Pentagon and the one that went down in Shanksville were 757s.

He states that he would not pay the designers to build a tall building that could not stay up if a building wouldn't stay up after a 757 crashed into it.

Here are 2 obvious problems with this claim: 1: The north and south towers began construction in 1968 and 1969 and were completed in 1970 and 1971, respectively ( source), 2:  As previously mentioned, the largest aircraft in existince at the time was the Boeing 707-  as we see here and here,  the 757 and 767 weren't around until between 1981 and 1983.  Just how does one design a building to withstand an impact from an aircraft that won't even exist until about a decade later?  The obvious answer is it's impossible.

Getting back the the fact that the designers did calculate it the Twin Towers would stand up to an ACCIDENTAL impact of a Boeing 707, it should also be pointed out that the calculations and what actually happens are often two different things. It goes without saying that the designers weren't going to field test those calculations-  that would have been counterproductive, to say the least.

I've said it before but it bears repeating: " Truthers" would do well to remember the old adage, " It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
